Tincan Island Customs Partners With Nigerian Professional Wrestling Federation to Promote African Wrestling Championship

The Tincan Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has thrown its weight behind the forthcoming African International Wrestling Championship, reaffirming its commitment to youth empowerment, sports development, and national pride.
On Tuesday, October 7, 2025, the Command played host to the leadership of the Nigerian Professional Wrestling Federation (NPWF), led by its National President, ”Chief John Uche, at the Command Headquarters in Lagos.
Chief Uche informed the Customs leadership about the upcoming international tournament scheduled for October 18–19, 2025, at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, Anambra State. The event, he said, will bring together wrestling legends and rising stars from Nigeria, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and several African nations.
According to him, the championship is more than just a sporting event. It is a platform for youth empowerment, designed to curb restiveness, reduce poverty, and create sustainable job opportunities through grassroots sports programs that will impact over 100 Nigerian youths.
In his response, Comptroller Frank Onyeka, Area Controller of the Tincan Island Command, commended the Federation for its vision and its recognition of the Customs Service as a strategic partner in national development.
He emphasized that under the leadership of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, psc(+), the Service remains steadfast in supporting initiatives that promote unity, youth engagement, and positive social values.
“Customs has always been a strong supporter of sports as a tool for national cohesion and youth empowerment. We are proud to associate with a project that not only celebrates Nigerian talent but also inspires the next generation of champions,” Onyeka stated
The visit reached its highlight with the unveiling of the championship trophy and the presentation of an Award of Excellence to Comptroller Onyeka by the NPWF leadership, symbolizing mutual commitment to the success of the international event.
The collaboration between the Nigeria Customs Service and the Nigerian Professional Wrestling Federation sets the stage for what promises to be an exciting and impactful tournament celebrating African strength, talent, and unity through sports.
