The Customs Area Controller of the Oyo/Osun Area Command, Comptroller Gambo Iyere Aliyu, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Customs Service’s commitment to deeper stakeholder engagement during a courtesy visit to the Olubadan of Ibadanland on Sunday, December 7, 2025.
During the visit to the palace, Comptroller Aliyu praised the enduring support the Command continues to enjoy from the Olubadan and the people of Ibadan, describing traditional institutions as critical partners in maintaining peace, security, and economic stability within the region.
He noted that Ibadan remains a strategic commercial hub where trade opportunities and security challenges intersect, stressing that the Command remains focused on revenue generation, trade facilitation, and suppressing smuggling.

“The Nigeria Customs Service recognizes the vital role traditional rulers play in sustaining peace, order, and community cooperation. We believe that with your continued support and guidance, our Command will remain effective in safeguarding Nigeria’s economic interests,” he said.
The Customs chief appealed to His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja, to continue sensitizing youths and traders against smuggling and other illegal activities that threaten national development.
He assured that officers and men of the Command would remain professional and respectful of the cultural values of host communities.
Comptroller Aliyu also commended the existing cooperation between the Command and the Olubadan’s palace, noting that the synergy has significantly enhanced Customs operations across the region. He called for sustained collaboration in tackling evolving smuggling tactics and boosting legitimate trade.

Responding, the Olubadan applauded the visit and encouraged the Service to intensify efforts in securing Nigeria’s borders and protecting the nation’s economy from saboteurs.
The visit ended with Comptroller Aliyu seeking the monarch’s blessings and prayers for wisdom and strength as the Command works to strengthen stakeholder engagement and promote economic growth in the region.
