The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has extended heartfelt greetings to maritime workers across Nigeria in commemoration of the 2025 International Workers’ Day, recognizing their vital role in sustaining the nation’s economy.
In a statement issued by his media and communications advisor, Bolaji Akinola, Oyetola lauded the resilience and dedication of workers in the marine and blue economy sector, from seafarers and dockworkers to port administrators and regulators.
“Today, I join millions of Nigerians to salute the unwavering spirit and industriousness of our maritime workers,” Oyetola said. “Your efforts are the bedrock of our nation’s gateway to trade and economic prosperity.”
Describing the maritime industry as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s economic structure, the Minister emphasized its critical role in the realization of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s *Renewed Hope Agenda*. He credited the efficient functioning of Nigeria’s ports and inland waterways to the daily commitment of the maritime workforce.
Oyetola reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to policies that protect workers’ rights and improve welfare, while also investing in infrastructure, technology, and workforce development.
“As we celebrate this year’s Workers’ Day, I wish to assure all maritime professionals that the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy stands firmly with you,” he stated. “Together, we will build a modern, secure, and thriving maritime sector that creates jobs, drives innovation, and enhances national development.”
He also called for stronger collaboration among government agencies, labour unions, and private stakeholders to ensure that the maritime workforce remains competitive, well-motivated, and prepared for future challenges.
