The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Tanzania Shipping Agencies Cooperation (TASAC) to deepen regional cooperation and accelerate the growth of Africa’s maritime industry.
The high-level bilateral meeting, held on the sidelines of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) General Assembly, culminated in the endorsement of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between both agencies.
The agreement was signed by NIMASA Director-General, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, and Tanzania’s Alternate Permanent Representative to the IMO, Dr. Devotha Edward Mandanda.
The MoU outlines a renewed commitment to advancing key areas of maritime development, including enhanced surveillance, improved seafarer training, strengthened cabotage administration, and the expansion of digital information systems for safer and more efficient maritime operations. Both agencies also pledged sustained knowledge-sharing initiatives to boost collective operational effectiveness.

Speaking at the meeting, representatives from both countries described the MoU as the beginning of a new chapter in regional maritime collaboration. They expressed confidence that the partnership would bolster maritime governance, improve technical capacity, and support the creation of resilient maritime institutions capable of driving sustainable economic growth across Africa.
Present at the bilateral session were the Chairman of the NIMASA Governing Board, Hon. Yusuf Hamisu Abubakar, Executive Directors of the Agency, and Nigeria’s Alternate Permanent Representative to the IMO, William Bwala.
