Operatives of the Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone A, of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), have intercepted a substance suspected to be hard drugs identified as Ice Crystal Methamphetamine valued at ₦562.5 million along the Gbaji–Seme Road, Lagos State.
The Comptroller of the Unit, Mohammed Shuaibu, disclosed this during a brief handover ceremony held at the Command’s headquarters on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.
According to Shuaibu, the seizure occurred at about 5:00 p.m. on October 17, 2025, when a patrol team, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended one Uduak Monday, who was found with a nylon bag tightly wrapped with sellotape.
“Upon examination, the contents of the bag were discovered to be Ice Crystal Methamphetamine weighing 25 kilograms, with an estimated street value of ₦562,500,000,” Shuaibu revealed.
He noted that the successful interception underscored the unit’s unwavering commitment to combating smuggling and other illicit activities, while emphasizing the importance of inter-agency collaboration in achieving national security goals.
“The seizure underscores the unit’s commitment to combating smuggling in all its forms and highlights the importance of robust inter-agency collaboration,” he said.
Comptroller Shuaibu added that the intercepted substance and the suspect had been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.
Receiving the exhibit on behalf of the NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive, the Commander of Narcotics, Lagos State Strategic Command, CN Abubakar Liman, commended the Customs Service for its sustained efforts in curbing drug trafficking.
“The contributions of the NCS in the ongoing war against drug trafficking are remarkable,” Liman said. “We will continue to update the unit as the trial of the suspect progresses in court.”
He also lauded the FOU Zone A for deepening cooperation between both agencies in line with the existing memorandum of understanding (MoU) on intelligence sharing and joint operations.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued by the Unit’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs Hussaini Abdullahi.
