In yet another major strike against drug cartels, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted 1,187kg of Canadian Loud at the Apapa Port—barely five days after both agencies uncovered 25.5kg of cocaine on a Brazilian vessel.
The latest haul, considered one of the largest single seizures of premium-grade cannabis in recent times, was discovered following actionable NDLEA intelligence.
A joint examination team cracked open a 1×20 container (FCIU 6369526) carrying two imported vehicles, only to find 55 bags stuffed with 2,374 sachets of the high-value drug. Each sachet weighed 500 grams, bringing the total to 1.1 tonnes.
The NDLEA has taken custody of the intercepted substance as investigations intensify to uncover the syndicate behind the shipment.
Apapa Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, commended the operation and reaffirmed the unwavering resolve of both agencies to dismantle drug networks exploiting Nigeria’s trade corridors.
“Just days ago, I stated clearly that no consignment will leave this port without due checks. Our synergy keeps us steps ahead of criminal elements. No matter the volume of trade we process, we will never compromise national security or the economy,” Oshoba said.
