In a major leap toward digital transformation in Nigeria’s maritime sector, the Tincan Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has launched the B’Odogwu platform, successfully processing its first Single Goods Declaration (SGD) on the new system.
The landmark event, which took place on Monday, signals the beginning of a new era in cargo processing aimed at improving transparency, reducing processing time, and boosting operational efficiency at one of Nigeria’s busiest seaports.
Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Frank Onyeka, described the development as a “watershed moment” in the Command’s ongoing drive to streamline operations through technology.
“This achievement demonstrates our readiness to embrace innovations that reduce dwell time and improve service delivery,” he said.
“The B’Odogwu platform has shown great promise, and we are proud to be at the forefront of its implementation.”
The Controller confirmed that the Command has achieved 100% network infrastructure coverage across all terminals and the headquarters, eliminating issues of connectivity and ensuring uninterrupted processing of trade documentation.
Developed locally, the B’Odogwu platform is designed to integrate seamlessly with existing Customs systems, offering a user-friendly interface for brokers, shipping agents, and other industry stakeholders.
The system supports real-time cargo tracking, document processing, and compliance management—minimizing manual procedures and enhancing accountability.
In preparation for the rollout, the Command held a series of intensive training sessions and stakeholder engagements in collaboration with system developers. Participants included shipping lines, terminal operators, licensed customs agents, and NCS personnel.
SteveJosh Logistics International Limited made the first official declaration on the B’Odogwu platform. Representatives of the company praised the innovation, expressing confidence that it will reduce transaction costs and boost Nigeria’s competitiveness in global trade.
