Abuja is set to witness renewed momentum in the fight for women’s and children’s rights as Barrister Alice Wowuota Iwara assumes office as the new Head of Women and Children Affairs for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), under the Human Rights Activists Nationwide and Guard Time Information, led by Chairman Bibi Oduku.

Unveiling her appointment, Mr. Oduku described Barrister Iwara as a passionate advocate for human rights and a tireless defender of the vulnerable, noting that she is uniquely positioned to spearhead reforms that will impact women and children across the FCT.

In her response, Barrister Iwara pledged to pursue bold reforms aimed at tackling the most pressing challenges confronting women and children. She vowed to prioritize advocacy campaigns against rape, domestic violence, and child abuse, while establishing survivor support programs and economic empowerment initiatives for women.

“I am deeply honoured and humbled by this appointment. My focus will be on promoting policies and interventions that protect the rights of women and children, ensuring their voices are heard, and building safe spaces that uphold their dignity,” she said.

Barrister Iwara also promised to work closely with law enforcement agencies, NGOs, and community leaders to drive justice, enforce protection, and advance sustainable solutions for vulnerable groups.

With her reform-focused agenda, stakeholders say her leadership signals a fresh era of activism that could reshape the landscape of women and children’s rights advocacy in Abuja.
