In a bold push to drive informed engagement and public discourse on Nigeria’s maritime potential, the International Maritime Institute of Nigeria (IMION), a research and training institution established by the Nigerian Navy, has unveiled an exclusive executive training course targeted at media practitioners.
Scheduled to hold later this month, the high-level course will bring together leading maritime journalists and media executives to explore Nigeria’s Blue Economy the untapped economic activities tied to the nation’s ocean and coastal resources.
IMION, known for its international-standard training programs, says the initiative is part of its strategic mission to build capacity and raise awareness on sustainable development within the maritime sector. The Executive Course on the Blue Economy for the Media will feature renowned subject-matter experts and focus on enhancing reportage, advocacy, and policy engagement.

“The media plays a crucial role in shaping public opinion and influencing national policy. This course is designed to empower them with the knowledge and tools to support Nigeria’s maritime ambitions,” IMION noted in a statement.
Highlighting the media’s importance, the Institute has formally invited the President of the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN), further emphasizing the media’s role as a key stakeholder in the nation’s maritime future.
The course aims to foster collaboration between journalists and industry leaders, encourage data-driven advocacy, and support sustainable exploitation of Nigeria’s Blue Economy assets from fisheries and shipping to offshore energy and marine tourism.
