The Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA) Nigeria has applauded the historic appointments of two influential female leaders in the West African maritime sector—Madam Jemilat Mahamah as Chairman of the Board of the Ghana Maritime Authority, and Ms. Iroghama Ogbeifun as a Board Member of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
Describing the developments as groundbreaking for gender representation and maritime governance, WISTA Nigeria praised both women for their dedication, professionalism, and contributions to the industry.
Madam Mahamah’s appointment has been heralded as a defining moment for maritime leadership in Ghana and beyond. Recognized for her strategic insight and service, she now becomes a symbol of inspiration for WISTA Ghana, WISTA Africa, and the broader WISTA global network.

“We are immensely proud of Madam Mahamah’s achievement,” said Dr. Odunayo Ani, President of WISTA Nigeria. “Her leadership promises bold reforms and strategic progress for Ghana’s maritime sector.”
Similarly, WISTA Nigeria commended the appointment of Ms. Iroghama Ogbeifun, CEO of Starzs Investments and a longstanding member of the association, to the NIMASA Board by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. Her appointment reflects the growing recognition of female expertise in driving maritime development in Nigeria.

“Her inclusion on the NIMASA Board is a powerful affirmation of women’s capacity to lead and transform the industry,” Dr. Ani remarked.
WISTA Nigeria described the dual appointments as victories for inclusive leadership and a clear sign of the expanding influence of women in maritime policy and administration across West Africa.
“These milestones are not just personal achievements, they are collective wins for women in maritime. They strengthen our resolve to push for greater representation and deeper collaboration across the region,” Dr. Ani concluded.
